Promising Vannamei Shrimp Cultivation Prospect and Export Opportunities

Vannamei shrimp cultivation prospect continues to increase every day. Compared to other types of shrimp, the reason is that shrimp originating from the Pacific Ocean have better environmental resistance and a shorter cultivation time.

In addition, the exceptionally high domestic and global demand for vannamei shrimp has also increased its popularity of this shrimp. It’s no wonder because vannamei shrimp has a distinctive taste and soft texture suitable for various cooking types.

Vannamei Shrimp Cultivation Prospect

The increasing global market demand for vannamei shrimp has made many people start looking at this business. Both include small-scale ponds, such as traditional ponds, and large-scale ponds, such as intensive and super-intensive ponds.

Vannamei shrimp has a fast growth rate, shorter cultivation time, and better environmental resistance when compared to other types of shrimp. In addition, vannamei shrimp are also relatively more resistant to disease.

Since it was officially introduced in Indonesia in 2001, vannamei shrimp have immediately become the prima donna of farmers. Moreover, due to disease, tiger prawn cultivation continued to decline at that time.

Indonesia has long been one of the largest shrimp exporters in the world. In 2021, Indonesia was ranked 4th after India, Ecuador, and Vietnam.

However, considering that Indonesia is the largest maritime country in the world, the potential stored in vannamei shrimp production still has relatively large prospects. If optimized, Indonesia can become a leader in shrimp producers and exporters.

Until now, of the total ponds in Indonesia, 75% of them can only contribute 10% of the total quantity of exports. The lack of full maintenance and management of ponds causes this.

Therefore, until now, the prospect of vannamei shrimp farming is still quite tempting. Given the broad market potential, environmental conditions and human resources support Indonesia.

Advantages of Vannamei Shrimp

In a way, vannamei shrimp have now dominated the world shrimp market. Shrimp named Latin Litopenaeus vannamei is more widely chosen than other types of shrimp. This achievement is inseparable from the advantages of vannamei shrimp which can be detailed as follows:

  1. The cultivation time is relatively shorter, which is only about 3 months.
  2. Reasonably resistant to disease when compared with other types of shrimp.
  3. High survival rate.
  4. It can be cultivated with high stocking densities.
  5. Has a flexible and broad market share for all sizes.

Vannamei Shrimp Export Opportunities

The positive trend in the productivity of shrimp ponds in Indonesia which continues to increase makes many people tempted to run a vannamei shrimp farming business. Moreover, the opportunity for vannamei shrimp exports is also very high.

Vannamei shrimp is a type of shrimp that is Indonesia’s main export commodity. This is triggered by the high demand, which continues to increase to meet the global market.

Countries that are the destinations for Indonesian vannamei shrimp exports include the United States, Japan, China, Malaysia, and the United Kingdom.

DELOS Launches AquaHero App to Help Farmers Increase Shrimp Productivity in Indonesia

DELOS officially launched the AquaHero application in Jakarta on November 4, 2022. This application was developed to assist and help increase the productivity of shrimp farms in Indonesia. In addition, AquaHero also offers easy monitoring of the overall condition of the farms based on uploaded and personalized data.

AquaHero has been in development for almost a year. Initially, the idea of making this application arose when he saw the condition of shrimp farms in Indonesia which were less productive and tended to lose money. The existing farmland is very potential.

For this reason, through the features developed in the AquaHero application, DELOS wants to help shrimp farmers to avoid losses and uncertainties from the condition of their farms. Now, farmers can enjoy its various features through the mobile app or the web.

What Are AquaHero Features?

1. Water Quality Index

The first feature of the AquaHero application is the Water Quality Index. This feature can input and process daily water quality data assessed and tested by the DELOS Science Team.

Considering that water is the most important component in a farm, through this Water Quality Index feature, farmers can find out if an anomaly occurs in their shrimp farms so that they can immediately take mitigation if needed.

2. Monitoring the Condition and Growth of Shrimp

AquaHero also has a feature to monitor the condition and growth of shrimp. This is aimed at helping the farmers get consideration in making decisions in effective and efficient farm management.

3. Recommendation Feature

In most cases of shrimp farming, farmers sometimes need to learn what actions they should take for their shrimp farms. Therefore, DELOS developed AquaHero, which can be used as a compass for farmers. Of course, this recommendation for action has been reviewed by a team of experts from DELOS.

4. Financial Monitoring

The last feature of AquaHero is the Farm Financial Monitoring feature. This feature estimates the Break Even Point (BEP) during the current cultivation cycle. In addition, this feature can also help farmers to make decisions from a financial perspective.

AquaHero Success Story

Before being officially launched, AquaHero was developed as a prototype that farms have used in the DELOS ecosystem. The existence of AquaHero also helps farmers to increase their shrimp cultivation yields by up to 300 percent.

DELOS CEO Guntur Mallarangeng said, “Our partner farms that have used AquaHero have increased their productivity by up to 17 percent. Even one farm has increased up to 300 percent from the previous harvest cycle.”

For sure, this is a positive trend for seafood production in Indonesia. Especially considering that Indonesia is a maritime country with the largest coastline in the world.

Choose AquaHero for Your Shrimp Farm Management!

In shrimp farming, many things are difficult to predict, especially regarding the condition and development of shrimp. Therefore, DELOS developed the AquaHero application to help farmers increase their cultivation yields and predict uncertainty in their ponds.

Using AquaHero, users can get a more accurate picture of making cultivation decisions while considering a financial perspective.
